Bon Iver is an American Indie Folk band founded in 2006 by singer-songwriter Justin Vernon.
The Bon Iver Project was designed while I was at the O'more College of Design. The goal of the project was to create a 12x 12 album cover for an artist or band that I personally connected with. The song that was prominent for me while I was designing this cover was a cover by Bon Ever "I can't make you love me" by Bonnie Raitt. I also took inspiration from his studio album cover Bon Iver as well as their other albums like 22, A Million.
My intention was to create an album different from his other albums that incorporate some of the same style. I decided that I wanted to use paint in the creation and when I went to sit down and express my feelings at the time. The result was six different paintings that I later converted to digital versions which were used for the cover.
This is an image of my original paintings from the set of six that I did to start the process and thinking about the Bon Iver Album.
Conversion to digital.
Playing with type & playing with a bit of psychedelic inspiration.
Here I have chosen the best type treatment for the artist which compliments the graphic behind it.
